A statement from Raymond M. Pocino on the passing of Beau Biden

NEWARK, DELAWARE -- Beau Biden proved throughout his all-too-short life that public service is a calling for honorable men and women and Beau Biden was, indeed, honorable. He aspired first and foremost not for individual greatness but rather for a civic goodness.  He genuinely cared about others and wanted to make a difference.  He did.

As Delaware’s Attorney General, Beau put his idealism into action and worked tirelessly to protect the vulnerable and prosecute the unlawful. He did so with integrity, humility, and driven purpose. Beau was a friend to me, but more importantly, he was a friend to all who yearned for leaders of uncompromising character. I will miss him in ways personal and professional.

The brothers and sisters of our union, the Laborers’ International Union of North America, always thought of Beau as one of their own, someone who lived his life according to the principles in the LIUNA motto—justice, honor, strength. We will miss our friend dearly.

On behalf of all of our LIUNA members in Delaware and beyond, I offer to the Biden family my deepest condolences and prayers. I am grateful for Beau’s life and I am saddened by his tragic passing.

Raymond M. Pocino is Vice President and Eastern Regional Manager for the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), representing more than 45,000 construction workers in New Jersey, New York City, Long Island, and Delaware. He also serves as a commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the NJ Turnpike Authority.
